Pandora's Box

Pandora opened the box containing all the evils. When she closed it the whole content had escaped except of one last thing, Elpis. In modern greek, Elpis translated as "hope", though earlier it also meant "expectation".
So, what could a contemporary Pandora's box be? How it would it look? Could an archive be a Pandora's Box? If Elpis is hope with its actual positive meaning, why was it in this box full of evils? If Elpis means expectation, with its ambiguity, then what we expect from our lives and why?
